Please read the following information thoroughly before undergoing your torsoplasty. We encourage you to ask any questions regarding anything you might find unclear. There is no such thing as an unnecessary question.

A body lift is usually a circumferential continuation of the tummy tuck procedure. It is occasionally performed without a tummy tuck.

Your torsoplasty may or may not include liposuction.

It involves extension of the tummy tuck incision so that they extend around the sides of the flanks and to the midline of the back meeting a similar incision from the other side. It is most commonly indicated for those people who have lost significant amounts of weight without concomitant contraction of the overlying skin.

In the area of the back and belly (the trunk), cases of mild excess maybe treated appropriately by procedures such as a tummy tuck or liposuction. However, in more significant excess situations, especially where the excess is circumferential (circular) in nature involving the belly, hips, back, buttocks, and outer thighs, a more extensive procedure called torsoplasty (or belt lipectomy) is required. You could describe it as a facelift for the trunk.

A similar procedure involving the breasts, side chest wall and upper back can be performed to improve the contour and reduce excess skin. This is called an upper body lift.

Depending on the length and degree of the procedure, blood transfusion may be necessary.

All patients are required to stay in the hospital one to two nights. All patients have a number of drains, plastic tubes left under the skin and fat to collect tissue fluid and blood, left in place for one to two weeks. The patients are expected to get up and walk the first night after surgery and the level of activity is slowly advanced over the next few days. Most patients are back to their daily activities in four to six weeks.
