Please read the following information thoroughly before undergoing your facelift. We encourage you to ask any questions regarding anything you might find unclear. There is no such thing as an unnecessary question.

As people age, the effects of gravity, exposure to the sun and the stresses of daily life can be seen in their faces. Deep creases form between the nose and mouth; the jaw line grows slack and jowls and fat deposits appear around the neck.

A facelift can't stop this aging process. What it can do is "set back the clock," improving the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and redraping the skin of your face and neck.

The operation is directed toward an improvement, and does not, in any way, guarantee complete obliteration of all excess skin or wrinkles. Your age, skin type, the amount of sun damage you have sustained and a history of smoking are factors in the overall result to be obtained.

Facelifts are very individualized procedures. In your initial consultation we will evaluate your face, including the skin and underlying bone structure, and discuss your goals for the surgery.

Your facelift may or may not include Liposuction, Brow lift or Blepharoplasty. Sometimes these are done in stages.

The Surgery

Incisions usually begin above your hairline at the temples, follow the natural line in front of the ear, curve behind the earlobe into the crease behind the ear, and into or along the lower scalp. If your neck needs work, a small incision may also be made under the chin.

In general, the skin is separated from the fat and muscle below. Excess fat may be removed or suctioned from around the neck and chin to improve the contour. The underlying muscle is then tightened, and the excess skin removed. Stitches secure the layers of tissue and close the incisions that are visible on the face. They will be removed between five and ten days after your surgery. Metal clips may be used on the scalp. These are removed at approximately two weeks.
