Blepharoplasty is performed on both the upper and lower eyelids to reduce excess skin, muscle and/or fat on the eyelids.

A blepharoplasty tends to “open the eyes” and cause the facial expression to be brighter. In many patients, it eliminates the tired look that is associated with baggy eyelids.

The Surgery

For the upper eyelid, an incision is made in the crease and a variable amount of excess fat and skin is removed.

For the lower eyelid, if excess skin needs to be removed, an incision is made underneath the eyelashes. If, however, only fat needs to be removed, the incision can be made inside the eyelid, with no visible external scar.
