Please read the following information thoroughly before undergoing your mastopexy. We encourage you to ask any questions regarding anything you might find unclear. There is no such thing as an unnecessary question.

Breast ptosis refers to sagging of the female breast. Mastopexy involves the removal of excess breast skin and reshaping of breast tissue, resulting in a more youthful looking breast.

Lifting of the breasts can be predictably achieved with scars that are usually well hidden. Most patients are very happy with their results.

The best results are seen in women with average body weights and firm skin tone.

The Surgery

There are several operations for mastopexy, all of which involve removing excess breast skin. The nipple and areola (the pigmented skin surrounding the nipple) are left attached to a portion of breast tissue (pedicle) and lifted to a better position. In some cases, if the areola is disproportionately large, it can be reduced in diameter.

If concomitant augmentation is required, this can be done through the incisions used for the mastopexy. For further information see breast augmentation.

Major lifts that involve the removal of a significant amount of skin may require larger incisions that result in more conspicuous scars.
